What is People Operations?

People operations is a term used in human resources to describe the department or function within a company that is responsible for all aspects of employee management, from recruiting and hiring to training and development to performance management and exit interviews. People operations is also responsible for ensuring that the company’s employee policies and procedures are up-to-date and compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. In some companies, the people operations department may also be responsible for HRIS (human resources information systems) and other aspects of HR technology.

What is the purpose of People Operations?

People Operations, also known as Human Resources (HR), is responsible for all aspects of an organization’s workforce. This includes recruiting and hiring new employees, onboarding and training them, managing their records, and ensuring that they are treated fairly and in compliance with all relevant laws. People Operations also oversees benefits and payroll, and often handles employee relations issues. In short, People Operations is responsible for ensuring that the organization has the right people in the right positions and that they are treated fairly and equitably.

How do you build People Operations?

The first step in building People Operations is to assess your current needs and resources. This includes understanding your current team, their strengths and weaknesses, and what areas of your People Strategy need improvement. You’ll also need to identify any gaps in your current team or resources that need to be filled in order to support your People Strategy.

Once you have a good understanding of your current needs, you can begin to build out your People Operations team. This may include hiring a Director of People Operations, HR Manager, and/or other HR staff. You’ll also need to create or update your HR policies and procedures, and build out your HR infrastructure.

The final step is to put your People Operations team in place and start implementing your People Strategy. This will involve training your team, setting goals, and tracking progress. Over time, you’ll continue to refine and improve your People Operations team and strategy to ensure that your employees are happy and productive.

Who is People Operations for?

People Operations is responsible for all aspects of human resources for a company. People Operations also works with managers to ensure that employees are meeting the company’s performance expectations and that any issues or concerns are addressed. Additionally, People Operations is responsible for ensuring that the company is in compliance with all applicable labor laws.
